Second Suspect Charged in 2024 Sarasota Murder Case as Investigation Expands

A second suspect has been charged in a 2024 Sarasota homicide. Laterryah Reed, 21, now faces a murder charge as police continue their investigation into the fatal shooting.

A second person has been charged in connection with a 2024 homicide in Sarasota, Florida, as authorities continue to pursue justice in the case.

Laterryah Reed, 21, of Sarasota, is currently being held at Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala on unrelated 2024 charges. On March 25, Sarasota Police detectives formally filed a warrant charging Reed with murder. Investigators traveled to Ocala to notify her of the new charge.

The case stems from a fatal shooting that occurred on May 16, 2024, around 10:15 p.m. Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1800 block of 31st Street, where they discovered a 28-year-old Sarasota man who had been shot twice. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Just days later, on May 21, 2024, police arrested Tujuan Byrd, 15, also of Sarasota, in connection with the killing. Byrd was charged with murder, and under Florida law, details of juveniles charged with felonies are considered public record.

Following Byrd’s arrest, detectives continued their investigation, ultimately identifying Reed as a second suspect. Authorities say they developed additional probable cause linking her to the homicide, leading to the newly filed charge.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Sarasota Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be provided directly to Detective Maria Llovio or submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Sarasota.

This latest development marks a significant step forward in the case as law enforcement works to fully resolve the deadly 2024 shooting.
