Family Seeks Answers After Zulma Briones Killed in Southwest Oklahoma City Double Hit-and-Run
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The family of 46-year-old Zulma Briones is grieving after she was tragically killed in a double hit-and-run in southwest Oklahoma City. The incident occurred near SW 59th and Francis, where surveillance footage captured both vehicles striking Briones and leaving the scene.
“She came by here, got some stuff, and took off walking. She said she’d be right back—and she never came back,” said her sister, Deyadira Briones.
Cameras from a nearby business showed the first car hitting Zulma at 6:03 AM, backing up, turning around, and driving away. Minutes later, a second vehicle struck her. Neither driver stopped.
Local businesses reported that streetlights in the area often do not work. OG&E confirmed one streetlight at the intersection was out of service and crews have been dispatched for repairs.
Zulma Briones was recovering from a stroke and had been relearning to walk and regain use of her left side. “She had to learn to walk again, and she had to learn how to use her left arm and leg. She was just in the process of learning how to live her own life again,” said Deyadira.
Police continue to search for the drivers involved in this fatal double hit-and-run. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department.
